Bradford’s Active Sports Awards

On an evening in May 2023, four Bingley Belles put on their glad rags and headed out to Bradford Active Sports Awards.
Along with the top Bradfordian sport’s women and men and all the great and good from the district, we went to celebrate and recognise the amazing sporting achievements across Bradford.

However the main reason we were there was to cheer on our very own Judy Robinson, who had been nominated for the ‘Outstanding contribution to Volunteering’ category. There was a record number of nominations, finalists and supporters, in attendance at this year’s 7th Bradford Sports Awards.

Judy volunteers not only as a Bingley Belle ride leader, but is our membership secretary and a committee member. She is also a Breeze Ride leader and runs her Saltaire Breezers group. Judy also volunteers locally as a timekeeper at the local parkrun in Robert’s park. Amazing!

All the volunteer nominees were amazing. When Judy was invited to the stage to talk about her contributions with the host, Tanya Arnold, we heard exclamations of “wow” at the next table! We are obviously biased, but it was lovely to hear the recognition by others of what a star Judy really is.

Judy was narrowly pipped to the post by Alex Walmsley, who as a father of a still born baby, runs Sands United West Yorkshire which unites grieving dads through football. A worthy winner.

We had a great night and it was lovely to be part of an event celebrating Bradford’s sporting achievements.
